Subsidence can be hard to spot, but some early warning signs include:
- Doors and windows becoming sticky and difficult to open and shut;
- New cracks appearing in walls and;
- Existing cracks growing in length and depth.
Please bear in mind that, sticky doors and windows on their own could be a result of wet weather, so no need to panic! Just make sure that you check them again once they have dried out.
Equally, if your home is a new build, some cracks may appear as the building settles. This is unlikely to be subsidence, but you should still check with the building company.
If you’re worried about subsidence, phone your insurer’s claims department as soon as possible.
